Certified by who? Hogwarts?

The prices for these drugs is ridiculous. My kids vere prescribed Ventolin this winter due smog related illnesses. Looking at price of a Ventolin inhaler (90mcg) even on Cuban's website (https://costplusdrugs.com/medications/albuterol-90mcg-inhale...) it costs $43

The same thing costs less than $2 in Pakistan for the Glaxo Smith Kline version. https://www.emeds.pk/ventolin

Are you going to go to Pakistan to buy it?

Haha no. I get them muled over from India with a prescription or I’d go get them myself. Only suckers and rich people pay American rates.

I have so many antibiotics and controlled substances you’d be better off raiding me over your local Walgreens in a zombie apocalypse.

Seriously, sometimes I read about people dying of lack of access to insulin and it blows my mind. It’s one payday loan spent on the round trip flight and 30 hrs and you have cheap medication.

Even when folks here were whining that HCQ was going to be in “a shortage”, I just bought some Plaquenil from there. Folks really like building cages and then just die in them. Frankly confusing but hey it’s your life.

https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/5-tips-travel... The government's attitude appears to be against muling medicines over (I realize that people still do it all the time).

Self-prescribing antibiotics is not great for antibiotic resistance - Al Jazeera has done some great reporting on how Indian pharmacies loose prescription checks or doctors overambitious antibiotic prescriptions have caused a rise in antibiotic resistant superbugs (https://www.aljazeera.com/program/101-east/2016/8/9/the-rise...) - sure they're easy to get, but there's been a tremendous health cost in India because of that

But not only "suckers and rich people" pay American rates - the people who were born here without foreign ties do it all the time!

And finally, India just recently opened for tourism, plus they're not doing visa on arrivals yet, how can people get a payday loan, passport, visa via embassy, and a whole trip in so casually?

Edit: can't you just do everything you mentioned above in Mexico anyways?

Hey, I’ve done what I could. You can listen to your FDA and go contribute to GoFundMes when people die of diabetes. That’s one way to live life. I choose another way, but I’m not demanding you join me. You can always enjoy the fish mox.

I live in Pakistan :)

Good for you. Drugs in the US are often much more expensive than the prices on the website

I'm in Pakistan and on the rare occasions I browse Twitter I mostly see anti Pakistan propaganda by Indians and not much else.

Same is the story with Quora.

How do you get into consulting?

Here's my strategy:

   * decrease your expenses (or at least know them)
   * build up a cash cushion (I like a 6 month runway, including buying health ins if you need it)
   * moonlight (check your employment agreement) by asking folks you have worked with or met if they need help. LinkedIn is great (always ask if people know anyone who needs help, rather than "do you need help" as that is less awkward)
   * take the plunge when you feel like you have enough contacts
You can start building a name for yourself in a specific area by blogging or contributing to open source.

I wrote more about this here: https://letterstoanewdeveloper.com/2020/10/05/how-to-make-a-...

and here: https://www.mooreds.com/wordpress/archives/2190

HTH. My email is in my profile if you have specific qs.

The consulting bar is often lower than the hiring bar, and pays better provided it's an organic referral and not like Upwork. You get offers in a similar way to getting jobs - write clever things on blogs/social media, seem like you know what you're doing, do a little more work than expected. Often it's worth taking your first job at a loss because it'll spawn more referrals if done well enough.

I along with my team was part of this project, the Lahore SafeCity project, working closely with BES to deliver the required technology. I had a lead role in most of the projects and was familiar with all of their workings to a good extent.

I clearly remember going to give a demo of one the systems and at the end of it the British Consultant belonging to ARUP consulting firm told the Huawei software team in a passing remark "lets meet later and i`ll teach you guys about version control". Thats how I came to realize that the Huawei team may have hardware expertise, but the people they had working at SafeCity Lahore were not very competent at software.

Midway through our engagement some members of the Punjab Police (government) informed us that the Huawei folks were taking our documentation for various projects and shopping around for cheaper quotes. This is where things started going really sour.

Aside from this we encountered many other hurdles from Day 1 and the overall process was very unpleasant to say the least.

So how is it different from the usual behaviour of any large corporation?

How is such a vitriolic comment allowed on HackerNews?

Did they make a claim that is not true?

Nuance is difficult to attain when talking about people living 12 timezones away

10 Hens and 2 Roosters.

Not kidding. They eat worms and stuff around the backyard, and whatever organic trash we have at the end of each day. I prefer the fresh free-roam eggs over store-bought any day and I also really like the farm sounds.

This may sound like a joke but it really isn't.

I know more than one person with a chicken coup. Mine only have hens but they contact friends when they need a rooster to visit and fertilize :)

I admit I have not checked it Azure in recent times, but back in the day it was just as expensive as AWS.

From an Islamic religious perspective, the soul is taken out of the body when you sleep and then put back into it when you wake up. Much the same way as when you die.

So there you have it :)

As someone who struggles with this on and off, probably more on than off but I dont like to admit that, I find gratitude to be the one thing that makes a huge difference in my life. It fits in nicely and deeply with my religion as well so there's that.

Externally though people think I'm a very happy person. Internally I know its just easy for me to forget or push away the dark thoughts for periods of time, but when I let them surface, they can cause a lot of sadness.

The thing about me is that I am a very logical person. I recognize and find it very easy to deal with the fact that depression is by and large a chemical imbalance. So I often find it very easy to label my current sadness as something caused by lack or excess of chemicals in my brain and that helps me cope a lot with things as well.

I've found depressed people tend to be told a lot to excercise and dont consider it as a solution, but again for me I find it fairly easy to co-relate the low points in my life with a lack of excercise and fresh air. So this tends to again help me push myself out of my low moods.

As a non-religious person, all this resonates very much with me. The gratidtude bit is something that is relatively easy, and surprisingly effective at making you feel more connected with the world. Try writing down the thing you're thankful for, or even actually thinking people. I bet you'll be surprised at mood the lift you get.

Agreed. I've noticed that sometimes I get a huge boost of happiness by simply smiling and giving a greeting to strangers passing by who seem to be having a tough time...

Seeing the huge smile on their face when they see a random stranger greet them brings me to the verge of tears.

The life of this world can be tough on people. Every little bit helps.
