The problem with being always online is not “not-enjoying” but stopping to think. People are getting used to be feed what they need to think constantly (from politics to product reviews) and then their critical thinking skills atrophy.

Moreover, I’m not sure if being on social media is something “enjoyable” anymore, and it’s more like smoking tobacco where it becomes necessary but is not enjoyed.

Are we going back to waterfall?

This has nothing to do with the article.

She's just arguing that most of the purposes of code reviews should be done before the typing part of coding instead of after. Identifying the best design before investing in typing / tokens.

Waterfall has to do with the size of the loop and when the customer gets to provide consumable feedback. She's not proposing changes to the size of that loop.

I mean, we certainly are in a lot of cases. Spec driven development is waterfall, and we're all in the midst of a new experiment to see if it works. I'm not sold, but consultants love it.

Used one once in a rental bike in Berlin, hated it all the time.

The power of contacts, and looking at the initial list it seems it’s a bunch of founders whose startups succeed using Ruby on Rails, so I guess yeah… they owe some to DHH

Most likely also technofascists and other oddballs helping out their technofascist buddies. One of the other big sponsors:

In July 2026, Lütke expressed support for setting voting rights proportional to the level of income tax paid by a citizen, with those paying no income tax being stripped of their voting rights and others gaining one additional vote for each $100,000 paid in income tax up to five votes per person.

Not even a distro, it’s a customization of Arch and Hyoerland.

Hope they redirect some of their fundings to them!

It raises the question: what is a distro since many distros are customizations of other distros. What makes Ubuntu a distro and not just a customization of Debian?

The video above is in inline with my opinion. If you ship an ISO (so users can install your distro directly without installing another distro first) and have control over the packages then you are a distro. Apparently, Omarchy has its own ISO and it's own mirror of the arch package repo so it is a distro by that definition.

I'm not sure if this is joking/sarcastic.

They are fully funding the author of Hyprland for 3 years.

DDH offered to work with Arch and they refused.

So like SteamOS?

SteamOS runs its own infrastructure and is more than a static set of scripts and dotfiles on top of an existing distro.

Steamos is a mirrored snapshot of arch (like omarchy) + bash and python scripts (like omarchy) + their own shell (steam running on top of gamescope for steamos and a custom quickshell based one running on top of hyprland for omarchy) + modified upstream kernel (both steamos and omarchy)

Yeah and Ubuntu just started as customized Debian

That's... not true.

At the time Ubuntu started, Debian's old installer (boot-floppies) was legendary for its unfriendliness, and the new all-singing, all-dancing replacement was a mammoth endeavour and a long way off completion. Ubuntu provided a simple, friendly installer that covered only the limited set of the most common use cases, but was a dramatic improvement for new users.

They also employed a bunch of Debian developers, and gave them space to continue their work for Debian. It wasn't all smooth sailing, but Debian was stronger as a result of their contributions right from the very start.

Now, maybe Omarchy are providing a similarly major contribution to Arch - but, if they are, they've kept quiet about it so far.

No, Israel has maintained relations with the Kremlin and has refused to impose sanctions against them, as well as rejected calls to send military aid to Ukraine.

How many user do the Chinese open models have and how many users do OpenAI have?

Because they want to influence the mainstream outside of their frontiers.

Using local models, usually means generating content on a more private, local device with the weights of the model stored on that device - a local LLM model could have helped write these posts. It only gets easier to self-host increasingly capable models for generation of text, images, video etc. E.g: Prism ML Bonsai have an older 27B text generating LLM model squashed down to a few GB at what they describe as 95% quality, which can run on a phone.

Before Altman she worked for Zuckerberg. What will be next?

Elon might want someone like her...

Time to put in a call to Ellison.

I think Oracle stock would plummet if Ellison got caught pretending to care about ethics. Not that it'd happen lol

Indeed they were.

Also, it’s interesting to note that in both cases they where two very lean companies (Instagram had 13 employees and WhatsApp had 55) with pretty a pretty large and engaged user base (30 million for Insta and 450 million for WhatsApp)

Yeah, and he threw a huge bunch of cash to acquire them. pretty easy to acquire. Harder to build. He got lucky with facebook because myspace sucked. Good timing.

I always hear reverence around Myspace. Is it really rose-tinted nostalgia? It seemed like a cool core product.

MySpace gave users a lot of freedom. That was great in certain scenarios but at it got bigger it meant there was just more noise and the general atmosphere was very messy for lack of a better word. Facebook was very clean by comparison and it felt natural to connect to people who couldn't handle MySpace, people in your family or at work etc. Then eventually it got big enough through that that it just became the place to connect with your cool friends too because "everyone" was there.

So yeah, it's kinda mixed. The core product was cool but it wasn't as suitable for as a replacement for the phone book in the way Facebook was.

Yes and then Facebook did everything they could to subvert granular privacy controls (Myspace was decent, it had a wall but that was about it) which is of paramount importance for people with real safety issues

FB would have been invented. It's just another layer of authentication anyway. Myspace was an interesting experiment for its time

...Comparisons of Tom to Zuck are rife I'm aware but somehow Myspace isn't known for "they trust me, dumb fucks"

...but most of all, Samy is my hero!
